||Name: Kabane

Total REP earnings: 0

Current REP: 0

Skill Level:

||Job: Gravekeeper.
||Age:  ??? (Physically looks around 14-16)

||Gender:   Male
||Form: Humanoid with mismatching eyes lacking luster. There’s a dark mark beneath the left eye.
||Type: Gasha-dokuro.
||Height:

• Humanoid height: 5’5

• Yokai height: 15ft

||Skills:
Skill Level: Beginner

Skeleton physiology: Kabane’s true form is that of a giant skeleton (waist up only) spewing purple coloured mist, a transformation which occurs during midnight or under the influence of strong/extreme, negative emotions.

Bone reanimation: He is able to control the bones of a corpse, usually a person who died whilst holding a grudge/regret/unfinished business. Either to become his true form, which is made up of the bones of starvation victims or to use the skeleton as a puppet of sorts (a bit of a rusty skill since he rarely uses it nowadays)

Eroding breath: Usually, the purple mist Kabane breathes out is harmless, but if needed, he can use it to decay organic material.

Bone perception: Kabane can see all the memories of a deceased person if he comes in contact with their bones.

||Weaknesses:

Empathic possession: Kabane can be easily taken over by strong emotions, especially if he is in his human form. Vengeful spirits can easily transfer their hatred into him just by coming in contact with him (one reason he doesn’t use bone perception much) and negative emotions can cause him to revert to his true form with possibilities of going into a rampage to boot. His human form itself is a weakness due to its fragility.

Mobility: When he’s in his true form, he can’t really move from the spot he has materialised from without great effort (since gasha-dokuro only appear from the waist up, so no legs).

Food: Bribe him with food and you’re sure to get your way with him.

||Weapon:

•His teeth (one heck of a jaw.)

||Likes:

~Food
~Night time

~Crysthanthamum flowers

~ Bells/windchimes

||Dislikes:

-The sunlight/morning

-Purifying elements (i.e. salt, charms, places that are extremely pure in essence.)

-Most living people (prefers dead company.)

-Being hungry

-Walking/shoes

||Personality:

Kabane comes across as very...unfeeling. It seems all he cares is food to the point that it over-writes everything else, including common sense. He seems bland, oblivious and uninterested in everything that’s not edible, lacking social qualities to the point that it seems he’s suppressing himself.

Which indeed is the case.
Kabane dislikes showing attachment, using food as an excuse to interact. In truth, he is afraid of his emotions getting the better of him, afraid of feeling hurt. He doesn’t trust humans, being the product of starved souls and those killed in cruelty, such as war. Kabane likes to avoid trouble whenever he can, but this overcautiousness and a lack of trust just adds to his false image. He doesn’t know what he is truly like himself, but there are moments where he lets slip a childish and endearingly clumsy side.

||History:

As long as there has been war, famine, crime and tragedy, a gasha-dokuro is bound to come into existance.

It was like ocean waves, no one was able to predict how devastating the next one was or how insignificant the one after that may be. Sometimes, a famine would hit a small village, claiming only a handful of souls, most of whom were women and young children. But sometimes...a war strikes and consumes hundreds, even thousands of lives over the course of years.

The aftermath is never pretty.
Grief and the struggle to regain order is the least humans have to worry about if they knew what the dead had become. Kabane had no name at first, he simply emerged from amongst the decaying bones of victims, devouring anyone who came near. He had no will, knowing nothing but the sufferings and hatred possessing every single bone making up his body. When the ‘waves’ of death is minor, he simply vanishes...becoming dormant if some passing onmyouji tried to quell this tragic collection of dead bones. All he had to do was wait for the next wave to reappear again. Until then, he could spend decades and centuries in a strange limbo...Everything was easy without a conscience, you had no need to be anxious or impatient. The only thing that spurred him to exist again was the horrible hunger he was cursed with. He was simply a transient creature.

It wasn’t until his fateful appearance at a mass grave that changed everything. He hadn’t expected an exorcist to have been called to cleanse this foul pit of decaying corpses. A battle ensued and the onmyouji realised it won’t be possible to seal this gasha-dokuro, who is the embodiment of so many suffering souls collected over centuries. Unable to rid this creature, the onmyouji decided to place a barrier over this place instead, hoping that no one would stray too close to the woods concealing this mass grave. However, the place was notoriously used for corrupted individuals to dump bodies of their victims.

Stranded here, Kabane could only wait for the occasional body dump so that he could feed on these murderers or henchmen...He never cared who they were. And decades passed by drearily...Things felt so much more quiet now that he was confined to this one spot, unable to revel in the bones of grudge-bearers outside of this cursed barrier. He was even beginning to ‘think’, now that it had gotten quite boring. His hunger became worse whenever there were less body dumps...Oh how he wish he could’ve devoured that damned exorcist. How he hated this human. How dare he? How. Dare. He. Holding this eternal grudge, Kabane continued to exist on a tight diet until a foggy night, when a figure emerged from the trees, a smaller and limper figure in tow.

A man and a woman.
The woman was pleading, crying in pure desperation whilst holding an arm over her swollen stomach protectively. The man spat putrid words at her before throwing her down to the ground. She threw up with fear and the smell of rotting flesh surrounding this pit. Kabane didn’t understand a lot of the words the two exchanged, he was just so hungry...Before he could devour them both, the man had strangled the woman in order to silence her words, which seem to wound him deeply. Well...one was better than nothing. Kabane wasted no time and emerged from the earth, petrifying his victim with horror before eating him whole. He debated on eating the woman, since her body was still warm...But….what was this?

He realised that there was a sliver of life radiating from her. A weak, fragile little light. The giant skeleton lowers his head to the stomach of the dead woman and drew back in alarm. Despite being unborn, the child still lived. A vessel. And it will die and rot at this rate as its mother will. With a human body, maybe-
Just maybe.
This barrier may not be able to cage him anymore.
The chance of a life time. And so he seized it.

Kabane’s body of possessed bones began to crumble back to their original state as he removed his spirit from it. The purply mist plunges into the woman’s body, seeking out the still-warm infant about to have its light snuffed out.

Kabane was cut out from the womb by a passing monk, who must have felt the disturbance in the air whilst on his travels and sought to save the unborn child when he had come across the dead woman. The monk pitied this place and spent the rest of his years raising this child of life and death, while transforming the place into a proper burial ground. Kabane is the now new keeper of these graves since the elderly monk’s passing.

||Relationship:

None yet.

||Other facts:

-The Haori Kabane sports actually belonged to the mother of his human body.

-He still finds it odd to have legs and so he walks around in a weird tip-toey way

-When he transforms into his true form now, his human body is suspended within the ribcage.

-His name is derived from the word 'shikabane', meaning 'corpse.
